Our Handcrafted Glazes

At the heart of our pottery lies not only our local clay but also the rich, natural tones of our handcrafted glazes. Each glaze is made using carefully sourced raw materials from a trusted local supplier in Devon. Over the years, we’ve refined our glaze recipes through plenty of trial and error, working in small batches to get the balance just right — creating a finish that feels both natural and timeless.

Our glazes are inspired by the colors and textures of the Cornish landscape. Tin oxide creates a crisp, brilliant white — bright and clean. Cobalt gives deep, rich shades of blue, reminiscent of the Atlantic on a clear day, while ochre brings warmth with its golden and earthy tones, echoing windswept moorland and rugged cliffs.

Every batch is mixed by hand, carefully weighing and adjusting the raw oxides to make sure each glaze develops its full character. Tiny changes in temperature and firing length can create subtle variations, giving each piece its own personality. That’s the beauty of working with natural materials — no two pieces are ever exactly the same, but each carries a unique depth and warmth.

Our glazes don’t just look good — they feel good too. The smooth, glassy sheen of a tin glaze contrasts with the soft, matte texture of ochre or the cool touch of cobalt. It’s the kind of finish that invites you to pick up a mug or bowl and really feel the surface beneath your hands.

We’ve always been inspired by nature — the deep blues of the sea, the soft whites of coastal sands, the golden hues of the cliffs. That connection to the land runs through everything we make, from the clay we use to the final glaze.

By working with natural oxides and locally sourced materials, we’re not only creating something beautiful — we’re staying true to the environment that inspires us. Every piece is a reflection of the natural world, shaped by hand and designed to last.

From the crisp whites of tin oxide to the deep blues of cobalt and the earthy warmth of ochre, our glazes capture the colors and textures of Cornwall — natural, timeless, and made with care
